Trunk Tools CEO & Director of Construction Technology at AMLI Residential Co-Speak at 2024 BuiltWorlds Construction Tech Conference

On July 24, 2024, Trunk Tools CEO Dr. Sarah Buchner led a session alongside Mike Trenski, Director of Construction Technology at AMLI Residential at the BuiltWorlds 2024 Construction Tech Conference in Chicago, IL. See below for a description of what was covered and the link to the recording!

This session explored innovative strategies, best practices, and technologies for enhancing the efficiency of construction project management. Emphasizing the critical role of cohesive team dynamics and streamlined processes, industry experts discussed cutting-edge approaches to project planning, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement. Attendees gained insights into leveraging technology and fostering collaborative environments to mitigate risks, reduce costs, and ensure timely project delivery. This session aimed to equip construction professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to optimize both human and procedural elements and drive successful project outcomes.

The Brain Behind Construction

Trunk Tools is everything you need to know for anything you want to build. We ingest specifications, documents, RFIs, Submittals, and most importantly drawings and you can text for a response.

Product Capabilities

Information Retrieval

Mike asked some questions and was satisfied with the responses. After receiving a relatively simple response, he tried to stump Sarah by asking “when are each of the finish activities on the northeast stair corner scheduled for completion”? Sarah mentioned schedule questions are some of the most asked questions to Trunk Tools. By referencing the P6 and XDR files, Trunk Tools was able to provide an answer, pulling directly from the schedule.

Language Translation

An example was given showcasing the ability for Trunk Tools to translate into Spanish. However, this capability exists with Mandarin, Japanese, Austrian (Sarah’s original language) and others.

RFI Creation Capability

Additionally, the ability to create an RFI was shown, to resolve a discrepancy between the need for a power-actuated door, but no electrical outlet in the electrical drawing. The AI creates the RFI, populates the required fields, and you can send it back to your original system (Procore, ACC).

Is AI going to take my job?

We see AI as not taking your job but people using AI as being better prepared and efficient and potentially being the trend to watch.

What about confidentiality?

We have the same security standards as Microsoft or Procore (SOC-2). Further details can be found here. Each project’s data is confined to its own project-specific model so there is no leakage between projects or between customers.

How long does it take to train the AI model?

Depending on the project, but approximately 2 days. Mike from AMLI confirmed this based on his experience.

What’s Next?

As a company, we believe in IA – intelligence augmentation, not artificial intelligence (AI). Coming next, and in our pipeline but not yet fully productized is agents, which are proactive workflows built on top of the AI brain we discussed earlier.
