Testing on pilot projects indicates that TrunkText typically saves construction professionals an hour or two a day, according to Dr. Sarah Buchner, chief executive and founder of Trunk Tools. Entering 2024, TrunkText had been used on construction projects valued at about $3 billion, she said.
It would be impossible for a worker to read every page of documentation associated with a large construction project, but missing even one key sentence could cost a contractor hundreds of thousands of dollars, Buchner said. By providing correct, up-to-date information to contractors and subcontractors in the field, TrunkText can drastically reduce rework costs, she said.
“Generative AI is really good at digesting a ton of unstructured data, and construction is full of unstructured data that changes every day,” Buchner said. “The biggest cause of rework is miscommunication and using the wrong data to build [since] plans, specs and docs change all the time.
